Each of us have or are working hard to get rid of our fat to stay lean and fit, but what if you could put the fat to use? In fact, as a result of advances in stem cell therapies, our physicians are able to extract stem cells from your fat tissues. By means of a 'Mini-Liposuction' fat tissue is extracted from your body and processed to extract the stem cells; this procedure is known as "Lipogems".

Science behind Lipogems

Your fat tissue contains the required components to aid in repair and healing of the body. Lipogems procedure revolves around harvesting the fat cells, while maintaining the integrity of natural healing properties and when it's administered, culminates to an ideal healing environment. Lipogems have the added benefit of remaining viable longer than other types of stem cells.

Harvesting and administration Lipogems, is done in a closed-loop process thereby greatly reducing the odds of any contamination. As the fat tissue comes from your own body, chance of rejection is non-existent.

Uses of Lipogems

  • Osteoarthritis, Chronic joint pains
  • Joint degenerative and inflammatory diseases (works wonders, even when other modalities have failed)
  • Ligament and tendon tears, ex: tears of Patella tendon, Meniscal, Labral
  • Used in aesthetic surgeries such as facelift, breast augmentation. Promotes wound healing, while rejuvenating skin texture.
  • Used in Oncology, heals atrophied(dead) tissue that occurs as a consequence of radiotherapy

Lipogems procedure

Lipogems is a single-day procedure should only take about 1-2 hours, recovery time is minimal. Only side effects you might notice is a little soreness(1-3 days) and drain(1 day) from the site of fat removal, although this clears up fairly quickly. Strenuous exercise and rigorous activity are to be limited for about a week.

The aim of the procedure is to harvest stem cells from fat cells; for them to be of therapeutic use there needs to be a reduction of the size of the fat clusters. Lipogems procedure does not require the use of any additional additives such as enzymes. All your physician uses is sterile saline to wash and then rinse the harvested fat tissue. End-product is a group of small cells called "pericytes," these very small cells are injected back into the body at the site of therapy. Pericytes form a mobile colony of healing, they travel to the area of injury and subdues the inflammation which is causing you pain.

  • Physician makes a tiny puncture through your skin either in abdomen or thighs, to harvest a small amount of fat.
  • The fat is then processed in a Lipogems device using sterile saline solution. During this gentle process of micro-fragmentation, fat is washed, rinsed and resized into smaller clusters all while maintaining its natural healing phenomenon. This closed-loop system removes blood, fatty oils and inflammatory cells, leaving behind the concentrated fat (pericytes) which is therapeutic.
  • Physician injects the resultant cells into the treatment site. Over the course of next 6-8 weeks, healing process continues, resulting in good pain relief.
